There might be times when you want to encrypt a file or folder in your PC. Thankfully Windows by default provides an encryption option which allows you to encrypt confidential files and folders on your NTFS file systems. To encrypt a file/folder just Right click it, select “Properties” and on the general tab, click “Advanced”. Now select “Encrypt contents to secure data” check box, and then click OK. Finally click “Apply” to encrypt the file or folder. Now if a different user tries to access the file he will get an error. All this works pretty well but if you are looking for a better freeware alternative then you can try out Conceal. Conceal is a Free Encryption utility which helps you to encrypt/decrypt your important data files on the system.

All you have to do is just Drag and Drop your files on the panel, provide a destination and a password to encrypt it. Doesn’t it look simple?

Conceal provides a set of options while encrypting the file. You can select the algorithm for encrypting your file as per you requirements. You can choose from Fast Encyption, AES, RC2 and TripleDES. If you haven’t selected any of the options, then Conceal chooses a default algorithm for Encryption, which is the Data Encryption Standard(DES).
