Next Gen Apple iPhone to Feature 5MP OmniVision Image Sensors
Good news for all those photography addicts out there, it might be possible to capture high definition pictures from your iPhone in the near future. No we are not lying! According, to the rumors in the market, Apple is planning to include a 5-mega pixel camera in its upcoming version of iPhone. Reports indicate that OmniVision, the pioneer of CMOS image sensor suppliers, will be supplying Apple with five mega pixel sensors for its next-generation iPhone. So the video capturing on iPhone would also be good after that.
Recently Apple has updated its iPhone 3G featuring camera of 2MP to iPhone 3GS with 3.2 mega pixel CIS paired camera with a true auto focus lens. Expected to launch in the coming summer, the latest iPhone from Apple would feature OmniVision’s 5-mega pixel sensor, which would utilize a technique called backside illumination in order to maintain and increase the sensitivity of smaller pixels. For a better clarity in photography, it lets the light fall on the rear side of the sensor by flipping the traditional architecture of CMOS image sensors upside down, implies that the light would hit the actual sensing diode for each pixel location.
Those who are eager to possess a next-gen iPhone with 5MP camera wait until these iPhone’s hit the market in coming summer. Probably Apple would speak about it in the Jan 2010 event where it is planning to demo the Apple iTablet.
