Caffeine Sandbox – Google Search Engines New Architecture For Better Results
Google has unveiled a secret project with next generation architecture for Google’s web search. It includes new changes in crawling, indexing and ranking. Inorder to become a great search engine, it has to crawl a large chunk of the web, index the resulting pages and compute how reputable those pages are, rank and return the most relevant pages for users queries as quickly as possible. Google is providing a developer preview wherein they are expecting feedback from webmasters, developers and power users after trying it out. The Google Caffeine index is entirely new search infrastructure that will replace the existing one.
You can visit the web developer preview of Google’s new infrastructure at http://www2.sandbox.google.com/ and try your searches there. You can do a search at http://www2.sandbox.google.com/ and look at the bottom of the search results page for a link “Dissatisfied? Help us improve” Click on that link, type your feedback and include the word caffeine somewhere in the text box.
Google’s new search is only infrastructure related and currently it includes no UI changes. Curious users can test the new architecture but the changes are not noticed initially. Google says that most of the changes are aimed at faster page indexing and it may not involve some changes in how the search engine determines authority. If you are curious then do try out Google’s new Search Index and figure out the changes.
